Recipe of low prices and unexplored sites double number of foreign tourists entering Albania in 2017
The number of foreign nationals visiting Albania on vacation in the first quarter of 2017 has doubled.
According to data from the Institute of Statistics, Albania was visited by approximately 115 thousand foreign nationals stating they entered the country for vacation.
This figure is up by about 117% compared with the first quarter last year.
Albania in recent years is attracting more interest from foreign tourists, due to the fact that international operators have promoted the country as a new destination that is underexplored.
A competitive advantage are the relatively low prices, and this factor can have a significant impact in the conditions of a prolonged economic crisis in the EU.
In total, for the first three months of this year, about 602 thousand foreign nationals entered Albania, a figure rising by 7.1% compared with a year ago.
For the most part, the purpose of the visit is not defined in statements made at the customs and only 19% have expressly stated that they are tourists.
Meanwhile, Albanian citizen outflows for the first three months of the year increased slightly, by 1.7% compared with the same period of a year ago.
