Low salaries in Albania producing poverty
Wages are a very important aspect of the labor market and Albania has suffered from it during the last three decades.
Lower salaries in the country have also produced absolute poverty.
Data show that in Albania this rate is fixed at just over 5%.
For those working in the informal sector, the rate is nearly five times higher than those that are formalized.
Absolute poverty is the one under $3.1 per person in the form of purchasing power parity, so what can you buy with $ 3.1 and not just $ 3.1 as such, because in different countries, prices are different, changing completely the value of the figure as such.
A recent World Bank report showed that Albanians have fewer wages in Europe, expressed in purchasing power, and even 68.6% of Kosovo Albanian wages that are second in the list after Albania on the continent.
Compared with Montenegrins, the purchasing power of Albanians is as high as 50.8%.
In simpler terms, if a Kosovar Albanian can buy 6 pasta packages and a Montenegrin 8 with their monthly wages, an Albanian of Albania can only buy 4 pasta packages a month with his salary.
