March 8: Albania makes slow progress towards UN Gender Equality Goal
March 8 is commemorated annually across the globe as the women’s struggle for their rights.
Today, gender equality continues to be an unrealized goal, as it is included in the 17 goals of the United Nations sustainable development.
These objectives were undertaken in 2015 and have be realized within 2030.
Each year, an assessment of the progress of each country is made in each of the objectives.
How much progress has Albania made in terms of gender equality?
According to the SDG index, Albania has not made any progress in this regard.
With a score of 52.6 points in this indicator, the country performs worse than Serbia and Macedonia, but better than Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
Although, compared to other European countries, progress is slower in the country, just over half of the work has been done towards the 2030 target, which indicates a hopeless situation.
Other reports show that there is still a lot of work to be done towards wage equality, but especially in terms of mentality, which has constantly impeded progress in women’s empowerment in Albania.
