Mayor presents Tirana’s new Central Park
With a surface 6 times larger than the Youth Park, the Central Park of the New Boulevard will be the Albanian capital’s new lungs.
After Skanderbeg Square and Tirana Lake Parks in Farka and Kashar, the Central Park will be one of the most creative parts of the city, similar to the most modern parks in the most developed countries of Europe.
The Municipality of Tirana held a public hearing for the presentation of the project which was attended by members of the City Council, architects, urbanists, and representatives of interest groups.
The head of the Municipality of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said that for the first time a complete project is ready not only for the construction of the New Boulevard but also for the development of the entire area.
He said a two-year work for a detailed study on the improvement and development of the area has been done.
“For the first time we have not only the infrastructure project of the Boulevard, but also of a whole neighborhood of Tirana, which by its completion will have about 100 thousand inhabitants. The question is: Will we function as a city in emergency conditions or whether should we think in the long run?” Veliaj said, underlining that this project comes as standard of an urban testament to the city and planning of each neighborhood, starting from its location nurseries, kindergartens, schools, sanitation, water facilities, telephony, internet, and all supporting infrastructure such as playgrounds.
Focusing on the Local Plan for the development of the new area, the Mayor added that the City Council will approve at its first meeting the Central Park project.
Considering it a historic moment for Tirana, Veliaj said the work will continue without wasting time at a fast pace.
