The Albanian government aims to reduce public debt to 68.6 percent next year.
This was stated by the Minister of Finance and Economy at the parliamentary Economic Commission, where the draft law on budget 2018 is being discussed.
“We will lower the public debt: 68.6 percent is our ambition for 2018, a legacy that has increased in the last 120 years. We will continue to reduce public debt continuously, to give this debt back to citizens year after year,” Ahmetaj said.
Ahmetaj said that the real growth of the economy for 2017 is 3.9 percent, from 3.7 percent that was originally projected, while adding that the economy will have an upward trend for next year as well.
“The real growth of 3economy for 2017 is 3.9 % from 3.7 that was originally projected. Growth in the first half of 2017 was generated mainly by domestic demand, while consumption recorded a real growth of 2.1 percent, continuing the same trend, and that became the 7th quarter in a row where consumption only increases. Also investments increased by 12.6 percent, foreign demand rose in real terms to 14.8 percent for Albanian exports,”Ahmetaj stressed.
DP and SMI MPs did not attend the meeting of the parliamentary Economic Commission in sign of protest for the 2018 budget and its fiscal package.
