Money in circulation amounts to 359 billion ALL – New historical record, about 428 million euros more than in March 2020
The money supply index has continued its upward trajectory during March of this year, rising to ALL 359 billion, from about ALL 356 billion that was during the previous month. The growth in monthly terms is thus fixed at 0.7%, from 0.6% that was during the previous month, signal the official figures from the Bank of Albania. March is the second month in a row where this indicator is recorded increasing, as in January a slight decline was recorded.
Compared to March of the previous year, when the money in circulation was estimated at about 306 billion ALL, there are about 53 billion ALL more money in circulation in the Albanian economy, or about 428 million euros, according to official figures from the Bank of Albania. The indicator that speaks of 359 billion ALL in circulation during March has thus touched a new historical level. Following the crisis caused by the pandemic, in the framework of its monetary policies to support the economy, the Bank of Albania has injected a record amount of liquidity into the system.
Money in circulation measures only the level of local currency in circulation and no foreign currency, calculating the difference between the money issued by the Bank of Albania and the amount of money still in the institution’s coffers, ie the entire amount of Albanian lek that is in circulation in the system, outside the doors of the Bank of Albania.
