New credit is estimated at 104m euro in july
July has brought a strong credit growth to the euro by the Albanian banking system. According to data from the Bank of Albania, during July, 104 million new loans were granted, up 42% compared to the same period of the previous year.
For the first half of the year, the new loan has hit the value of 441m euros, increasing by nearly 4% compared to the same period a year earlier. These figures show that, at the moment, the de-euroisation signals provided by the Bank of Albania are not affecting the banking system much.
The Bank of Albania itself, in the quarterly report on the performance of the indicators monitored in the framework of the euro fall strategy, notes that the weight of the European currency in banks’ balances has continued to increase In the middle of this year, the weight of foreign currency deposits in the banking system increased to 53.2%, from 52.3% at the end of last year.
The same thing happened with foreign currency lending, which at the end of June accounted for 57.2% of the banking system portfolio, from 56.4% at the end of 2017 Bank of Albania’s measures to reduce the euroisation of the financial system will only come into force in the middle of this year, and, however are not expected to have major impacts in the short term.
By the end of July, figures show that this strategy did not bring any deviation from what was market trends before its announcement.
