New Parliament to convene on Sept. 9, SP heavyweight Ruci slated to be elected Speaker
On Saturday, 9 September, two plenary sessions are expected to take place in Parliament.
So, following the decree of the President of the Republic dated August 29 for the convening of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, the parliamentary secretary informs that the first session will be held on 9 September at 10:00.
Right after the meeting, the Assembly will elect the Provisional Mandate Verification Council, which consists of 9 MPs who will review the documentation of each newly elected MP.
It is expected that this council will draft the report on Saturday and then on this same day at 18:00, the parliamentary session will be convened again for the newly-elected MPs to take their oath.
The afternoon session will also elect the new head of the Assembly, for which until now there is only one proposal, Gramoz Ruçi.
In this new parliamentary session, the Socialist Party has 74 mandates, which are more than enough to run a government.
The Democratic Party is the second political force with 43 mandates, while the SMI has 19 mandates, PDIU 3 and the PSD has one mandate.
