Non-performing loans stock falls to 695 million euros
The non-performing loan stock of the banking system has dropped to ALL 93 billion or about 695 million euros.
Bank of Albania’s statistics show that in the absolute value non-performing loans have fallen considerably, given that at the most difficult moment they touched the value of 1 billion euros.
The main role in this improvement was due to the clearance of balance sheets from lost loans.
Since January 2015, banks were forced by regulatory requirements to write off loans that are in the “lost” category for more than 3 years.
In total, in two and a half years, ALL 43.3 billion or about 320 million euro of lost loans have been deleted.
This is basically the difference of the reduction of non-performing loans in recent years, but, however, according to Bank of Albania experts, the restructuring and organic improvements in the loan portfolio have also played a key role.
As a ratio, non-performing loans fell to 15.1% of the total of loans and appear on a steady decline path.
