Number of air transport passengers for the first four months of 2017 rose by 22%
The market of passenger air transport is growing at high rates this year.
According to data from the Institute of Statistics, about 700 thousand passengers have used international air transport to enter or exit from Albania in the first four months of 2017.
The number of passengers has increased by 22% compared to the same period of a year ago.
It seems that the number of passengers in air transport is slated to increase for the sixth consecutive year, while the previous year the number of passengers who passed through Tirana International Airport was 2.14 million, up with 8.2% compared with 2015.
Certainly, Tirana Airport is among the main beneficiaries of this rise in the number of passengers, influenced to a large extent by the increase in the number of foreign tourists and visitors to Albania.
For the first four months of 2017, the number of foreign visitors to Albania increased by 13% compared to last year.
The relentless rise of the market of passengers implies a significant potential that could be used much more if Albania could provide conditions for the introduction of low cost companies.
High operating costs at Tirana Airport remain a major obstacle, while the Albanian government has failed, so far, to make the Kukes Airport operational.
Currently, 15 different airlines operate through Tirana Airport, which for the first four months of this year have carried approximately seven thousand flights.
