Number of tourists visiting Albania marked a slight drop in July – Visitors from Kosovo are the main cause
The positive performance in the number of tourists visiting Albania during 2017 has halted during July.
According to INSTAT data, foreign nationals who entered the territory of Albania were about 864 thousand, or 0.1 percent less than a year earlier.
The main reason for this poor performance has to do with the fact that the number of visitors from Kosovo has declined significantly.
There are about 146 thousand visitors from Kosovo less compared to July last year.
The reason for this drop may be the political situation in Kosovo which may have forced citizens to postpone their vacations.
Meanwhile, this number is expected to recover in August, as reported in the long queues at border crossing points.
But despite the decreasing number of Kosovar citizens during this period, there is a significant reported increase in the number of visitors from all over the world.
Polish citizens visiting Albania were 31,202 individuals in July, with a total of 13,667 more visitors than a year ago.
Meanwhile, the number of Italian citizens has increased by 37 percent, to 51 thousand tourists.
This positive growth has been followed by Macedonian citizens who are increasingly selecting Albania as their first tourist destination.
After visitors from Kosovo, they hold the second place with 95,182 tourists, increasing by 19.6% compared to July 2016.
Regarding the way visitors choose to visit Albania, land routes remain the main ones due to tourists from the region who come with their cars.
However, the increase in the number of tourists from other countries of the world has fueled the increase of flights by 27.4 percent and that of individuals arriving by sea by 25.6 percent.
