Pandemic plunges industry, while the earthquake boosts construction – Declining sales, production and industrial workers, but a “boom” in the construction sector
The manufacturing sector during the third quarter of the year recorded a somewhat positive performance, with the industry declining slightly compared to a year ago, and construction growing significantly, based on the net sales indicator. Industry recorded a decrease of 3.5% of this indicator, with the extractive industry declining drastically by -18.5%, while construction recorded an increase of 16.5% of net sales.
The situation is similar in manufacturing, with industry declining modestly by 1.5% and construction rising sharply by 14.8%, according to the latest figures from the institute of statistics. The situation looks somewhat different in terms of the number of employees.
In industry, the employee indicator is declining by just over 10%, while in construction it is increasing, although not by the same pace of sales growth or production. The figures show that the industry, especially the extractive industry, continues to suffer from the effects of the pandemic, while construction is being strongly supported by the reconstruction process.
