Pandemic “shuts down” the cultural life – Only 11,081 visitors to heritage institutions, from 331,767 in 2019
The pandemic has almost completely paralyzed the cultural life in the country. The hardest hit is in cultural heritage institutions, while theaters and opera houses had an online window. The Ministry of Culture reports that for the second quarter of the year, cultural heritage institutions were visited by 11,081 people, while their number in the same period a year ago was 331,767, approximately 30 times less.
The vast majority of the decline is due to the lack of foreign visitors, who during the second quarter of last year were 178,560. For this year, while the number of visitors to cultural heritage institutions in the second quarter of 2020 is 11,081 visitors, 10,559 are domestic visitors and only 522 are foreign visitors.
