Plan for a green Tirana, EBRD: Green projects, main criteria for funding.
Tirana Municipality in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, launched an action plan to transform the Albanian capital into a green city, different from what we are used to seeing so far, where green-spaces are limited.
EBRD intends to bulk funded projects focus on this direction to enable a greener city.
“Green should be increasingly important for Albania, because agriculture is one of the main pillars for growth. Albania should use the green for a sustainable and competitive economy in the region. We have invested 240 million euros for projects in Albania and 80 percent of them were green projects. We expect that this action plan lead to concrete measures that will attract substantial investments. We will take the lead on these investments with banks and other donors, “said Mateo Colangeli, representative of the EBRD.
For his part, Mayor Veliaj stated that Tirana is moving in this direction, since there is already a clear national plan and that have been made decisions that are aimed at increasing the green areas such as the decision to limit the uncontrolled construction.
Veliaj asked for help consultants that this plan be translated into implementable projects. Veliaj also announced that will open discussion on local finance law so that municipalities have more access to funding and credit.
