PM Rama meets Greek counterpart Tsipras in Brussels’ Nato summit sidelines
Prime Minister Edi Rama met his Greek counterpart Alexis Tsipras in the sidelines of the NATO summit in Brussels, a meeting that was also attended by the two foreign ministers Bushati and Kotzias.
The two prime ministers stressed the strategic nature and importance of Greek-Albanian relations and the role of friendship between the two nations as a bridge of peace and stability in the progress of Euro-Atlantic integration of the region.
The prime ministers discussed the progress of bilateral relations and expressed their support to the two foreign ministers’ initiative for a mechanism of intensive consultations with a view to finding solutions to the problems inherited from the past.
The sides underlined the special role of the Albanian community in Greece, and praised the important steps taken for the social and economic integration of Albanians in the Greek state.
Rama stressed the need for progress towards finding solutions to existing disputes between the two countries in respect of the best European and international law practices.
“Greece has supported us and we want to continue to be a strong supporter of Albania’s EU membership process,” Rama said.
Prime Minister Tsipras expressed the strong support of Greece for the state-consolidating reforms in Albania as well as the importance that his government attaches to observing the rights of the Greek minority in the country.
The parties agreed that the only concrete solutions with a direct impact on the growth of the welfare of the two peoples will strengthen trust between the two countries and will deter us from the conflicting rhetoric and cramps of the past.
