Postal services are shrinking – AKEP: In the period of October-December 2020, 19% less services than the quarter of 2019
Postal services shrank by 19% during the last quarter of 2020, compared to the same period a year earlier. According to the data reported by the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority, during the period October-December 2020, there are 6,848,803 postal items received and sent by the Albanian Post and Postal Service Providers, while the largest part is occupied by the Universal Postal Service, i which fluctuates at levels around 73%.
In terms of market share, for the fourth quarter of 2020 the Albanian Post occupies about 77% of the postal market compared to other Postal Service Providers which together occupy about 23%. In total, there are 26 private providers of this service, which nevertheless remain non-dominant in relation to the Albanian Post. Meanwhile, in terms of express service, during the fourth quarter of 2020 there was an increase in services, compared to the same period a year ago.
Also, for the express service there is a decrease of market shares for the Albanian Post, where from about 21% of the market for this indicator in the fourth quarter of 2019, the market share of the Albanian Post in the fourth quarter of 2020 has reached about 11%, compared to about 89% of other providers. Meanwhile, regarding the last quarter of 2020 in relation to the third quarter, according to AKEP, there is an increase in the number of postal services in the amount of 9,038 services.
