Postponed grant applications / COVID-19 freezes funding for farmers
The Agency for Agricultural and Rural Development has postponed farmers’ applications for financing in agriculture for 2020. According to the official announcement of this institution, in the framework of drastic measures taken by the government to control the spread of ‘coronavirus’, the RDA has decided to suspend outreach activities and call for applications for support measures from the “Agriculture and Rural Development Program Fund 2020”.
A month ago the government set out the criteria, the categories of beneficiaries and the amount of financing in agriculture. According to the decision, the fund will be used to increase the competitiveness of livestock products, agricultural products in protected environments and reduce production costs, through payments of matriculated animals and subsidizing the price of plastics; b) increase the areas planted with medicinal and aromatic plants; c) certification of agricultural products and organic farms; d) support for diversification of economic activities in rural areas.
Specifically, this will support small farms with not less than 70 heads, about 1200 ALL per head and cattle 10 thousand per head, and will support beekeeping with 1 thousand ALL per hive for farms not less than 50 hives. Funding for aromatic plants starts from ALL 200,000 per hectare for individuals and farmers groups and up to ALL 4 million for agricultural cooperatives. Support for organic farms will be from 100-200 thousand ALL, while for reconstruction of rural tourism facilities, with 6-10 rooms, funding will reach up to 5 million ALL per subject.
In the meantime, 12 million lek of this fund will be used for uncollected payments for the winning projects of the year that we left behind as well as the contract interests.
