Remote banking rose by 28% in 2016: BoA
Remote bank payments are experiencing a rapid growth in Albania year-on-year.
According to data from Bank of Albania, the number of on-line banking or phone transactions for 2016 amounted to 1.8 million, up 28% compared to 2015.
The growth was also considerable in volume. For the last year, the total value of distance payments reached ALL 343 billion, up 21% compared to 2015.
Figures show that the modernization of banking services and the increasing use of technologies in Albanian society is helping to spread the distance banking services, which experienced rapid growth in 2016.
The overwhelming share of remote banking is held by on-line banking transactions, accounting for about 65% of the total.
Meanwhile, the number of bank accounts related to on-line banking has reached 209 thousand.
According to data from the Bank of Albania, the use of on-line banking during 2016 increased by 37%.
The use of on-line banking has increased for the eighth consecutive year, while about 88% of the accounts connected to the internet are owned by individuals.
Based on the number of accounts connected to the internet, it is estimated that in Albania remote payment services are used by about 7% of the population.
