Road accidents in Albania decreased by 22.4% compared to the previous year
This year’s January saw fewer road accidents compared to the same period a year earlier. According to the figures published by the Institute of Statistics, in the first month of 2019 road accidents decreased by 22.4%, as well as the number of casualties decreased by 12.6% while the opposite occurred with the number of those who lost life in these accidents which increased from 13 in January 2018 to 15 this year.
According to Institute of Statistics, road accidents, in 86.5% of cases, occurred as a result of the driver’s behavior. The highest number of accidents in this period was performed by the age group 25-35 years, accounting for 28.8% of the total number of accidents. Accidents in this age group result to have increased by 30.4% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The largest number of accidents during January of this year was in Tirana district with 46 accidents followed by the Lezha and Fier districts with 19 and 12 accidents while the lowest number of accidents resulted to be in Dibra with no accident happened and Shkodra with just one accident.
