Saddest Children’s Day in years: 23.1% of Albanian minors suffering from malnutrition
June 1 is known in some of the countries of the world as Children’s Day.
And while children celebrate, for adults, especially for policymakers, it must be a day of deep reflection.
Many children around the world are suffering and the figure is alarming.
The latest Save the Children report, entitled The End of Childhood, states that nearly one in four Albanian children, or rather 23.1%, suffer from severe malnutrition.
This rate ranks Albania 77th in the world among 175 countries in the children’s index for 2018. This ranking puts the country in the penultimate place in Europe, better placed only than Moldova.
With regard to severe malnutrition meanwhile, no other country in Europe has such a high rate as Albania.
The situation seems truly alarming since Albania ranks among African and some Latin American countries.
In all other countries in the region, the rate is under 10%.
In the last year’s ranking, Albania was ranked 71th, which translates to a deterioration of 6 positions in the overall index.
The malnutrition rate, meanwhile, from 23.1% remains unchanged.
Other data meanwhile, show that 5.1% of Albanian children, or more precisely one in twenty, is involved in any work that deprives them of their childhood.
