Tax on Serbian products – Konfindustria supports Kosovo’s decision
Confederation of Albania Industries supports the recent decisions of the Government of Kosovo to increase taxation on products with a certificate of Serbian origin. According to Konfindustria, based on the principle of reciprocity, they are also in line with free trade agreements signed by Western Balkan countries such as CEFTA and MSA.
Konfindustria claims that a large proportion of products with a Serbian origin certificate are subsidized and have a pure dumping nature in open contradiction with free trade rules.
It also states that the most obvious example of unfair practices from Serbia is the blocking of the use of the 400kV electricity transmission line between Kosovo and Albania for many years.
The project has cost close to 80m euros and will serve not only Kosovo and Albania, but also the entire European project of building a common energy network in the Western Balkans and beyond. Losses caused by the disruption of the power line are estimated at tens of millions of euros per year.
Konfindustria has repeatedly asked the governments of Kosovo and Albania to consider implementing the principle of reciprocity in trade policy with Serbia by imposing taxes on imports of Serbian origin, starting from the unprecedented case of obstruction, completely unreasonable and in a clear violation of international agreements, to put into operation the regional electricity line.
