Technical ministers leave government, submit report on election violations

The Technical Ministers nominated by the Democratic Party have officially left the government.

On Monday, the resignations and the report drafted for the June 25th elections were submitted to the Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Six technical ministers and the deputy prime minister left their duty which they took after the May 18 agreement between SP leader Rama and and DP leader Basha.

The departing officials are: Deputy Prime Minister, Ledina Mandia, Minister of Internal Affairs Dritan Demiraj, Minister of Health Arben Beqiri, Minister of Social Welfare Julia Kërtusha, Minister of Finance Helga Vukaj, Minister of Education, Mirela Karabina and Minister of Justice Gazment Bardhi.

Along with their resignations, Deputy Prime Minister Mandia also submitted the final report with findings on violations found during the campaign and election day on June 25, 2017.

“There was a massive vote purchase with illegal money, which even reduced the value of Euro right after the Rama-Basha agreement, and until two days before the elections. Criminal groups supported the parties of the majority during the elections. State police officers supported the government in their cooperation with criminal elements, and the public administration and budget funds were used in the campaign”, the report says, saying there were 3600 actions violating the law during the campaign.

The report mentions the names of institutions and persons who have allegedly violated the election law and bylaws .

In most of the cases, the report says that they were not verified or reported by the police.

Meanwhile, the report was deemed as illegitimate by the ruling majority, and it was not approved at the Task Force meeting.

Regarding the powers of the technical ministers, they are expected to pass to the deputy ministers until the establishment of the new government that will be formed following the constitution of the new Parliament.
