The 2021 budget increases by 11% for defense – Xhaçka: Increases by 27 million dollars, goes to 1.5% of GDP in order to reach the limit 2% of NATO
The Minister of Defense Olta Xhaçka presented on Wednesday in the Parliamentary Committee of National Security the Draft Budget of this department for 2021. She said that for the next year Albania’s expenditures for Defense go to 1.5% of GDP, with an increase of about 27 million compared to the current year, while the goal is to meet the condition to reach 2% of Gross Domestic Product as a NATO member.
Xhaçka clarified that the priority for next year will be the increase of capacities as well as the bilateral exercises with the United States of America, such as Defender 2021, which foresees the deployment of 8 thousand American troops in some regions of the country.
Xhaçka also mentioned the decision to compensate food for 4 thousand members of the Armed Forces during this year.
