The freedom of scientific research in Albania? Report says we are one of the freest places in the world
Academic freedom is an essential factor in scientific progress. At a time when the world has been engulfed by an unprecedented emergency, for at least the last 100 years, scientific research is in a race against time.
Academics and researchers around the globe are working to address this crisis. And at this point, academic freedom shows a lot. A recent report lists 202 countries around the world in terms of academic freedom. The data refer to the years 1900-2019, over 8 indicators and over 110 thousand observation points.
The report is published by a broad collaboration of the Global Institute for Public Policy and a number of other institutions, including the University of Nuremberg. But how does Albania rank in this report?
Around 200 countries of the world analyzed are divided into 5 categories, status “A” refers to those countries that have the highest score in the index, and consequently the highest level of academic freedom, while those that receive “E” status, have the lowest level of freedom. Albania receives the status of A, like no other country in the region, accumulating 0.848 points, with a score of 0 to 1, with 1 indicating maximum freedom. Countries like Croatia, Romania or France are worse off than we are in this category, the report said.
