The pandemic reduces to historic lows the utilization of production capacities

The pandemic has reduced the capacity utilization rate of Albanian industry to the lowest historical level. According to the Bank of Albania, this indicator resulted at 64% for the second quarter of the year. Other indicators observed periodically by the Bank of Albania, such as the financial situation, export contracts and expectations for the performance of employment in the next quarter, also marked a significant decrease.

Capacity utilization has dropped drastically for all other sectors of the economy, reflecting the onset of the pandemic and the closure of the economy.

Construction is the sector with the lowest capacity utilization, at the level of 56.6%. This indicator has fallen below the historical average by 7.3 percentage points.

Trade and services businesses have a higher capacity utilization, but even these sectors are close to their historical lows.

Businesses involved in commercial activities turn out to have used their production capacities with the lowest rate, about 65%. In the service sector, the capacity utilization rate stood close to 70.2%, about 6 percentage points below its historical average.
