TI: Corruption in Albania worse than last year, ranking 91st among 180 economies
Corruption is one of the most difficult phenomena to measure.
Broadly, the perception of the phenomenon is used as a meter, namely, how people see its spread in certain societies.
The most trusted of them, internationally, is the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index.
Albanians are 91st in the world in this ranking, among the 180 economies analyzed.
The index also marks a deterioration compared to last year’s report, both in the ranking and in the score.
A year ago, Albania ranked 83th in the world. The scoring has fallen from 39 to 38 this year.
This means that, at least in terms of how Albanians perceive corruption, the phenomenon has marked a growth compared to last year.
In this ranking, Albania leaves Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia, while Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo have a better ranking than Albania.
Among the countries that have made the most significant progress is Kosovo, which has overcome Albania in the ranking, going from the 95th to the 85th place.
Albania is among the most problematic in Europe in terms of corruption, which is evident from the accompanying map as well.
The global average is fixed at 43 points, and Albania with 38 points is far from that.
The average at 43 points to endemic corruption in a given country’s public sector.
