Tirana Airport welcomes SmartWings service from Prague
Another airline has been added to the fleet of Mother Teresa Airport.
Smartwings has officially started flying twice a week from Tirana to Prague.
Smartwings is the low cost branch of the Travel Service, which is the largest Czech airline company.
Direct flights twice a week will be on Mondays and Thursdays.
For the introduction of this line from Tirana to Prague, the Czech embassy in Albania has strongly lobbied, seeing the influx of Czech tourists visiting our country.
Travel Service, the biggest Czech airline company, operates regular flights under the SmartWings brand.
There will be two direct flights every week on Mondays and Thursdays until the end of September.
Albania has become a very popular destination for Czech tourist past several years. In 2016 around 14.000 people visited. A considerable number of the Czech tourists were customers of Travel Service.
The company flights transported to and from Tirana a total number of 9.022 people in 2016.
Many Czech people also travel individually to explore not only the coast but also Albanian mountains.
The common target of all partners involved, is to establish regular flights from Prague to Tirana and from Tirana to Prague throughout the whole year.
Direct connection will also contribute towards an increase of Albanian visitors in the Czech Republic.
The company has stated that the reduction of airport fees will enable the continuation of this line throughout the year, not just during the summer season.
High airport charges are also reflected in the new Tirana-Prague flight prices and vice versa, which are not close to the low-cost ones.
