Tirana-Durrës Railway – EBRD announces the winning company for construction, offer stands at 69.69 million euros
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has announced the winning company that will carry out the works for the rehabilitation of the Tirana-Durrës railway and the new branch to Rinas airport, paving the way for the construction of one of the most important railway works in the country. According to the official announcement of the EBRD, the winner is the Italian company INC SPA with a bid of 69.69 million euros, while the duration of the contract will be 30 months, which means that from its signing the works will last 2 and a half years. . The competition was also attended by 2 other companies that submitted the highest bids, with 92.2 and 92.5 million euros, respectively.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will finance the project with a loan of 36.87 million euros, while in addition to this loan, the European Union has allocated a grant of 35.4 million euros for the realization of the project. The existing railway line has a length of 34.17 km of railway line, while the new branch starts at the 27th km from Durrës and ends with a passenger terminal at the “Mother Teresa” Airport, with a length of 5 km. According to the project, the rehabilitated Tirana-Durrës line will allow a train speed of at least 100 km / h, while despite not being set yet, the ticket price is expected to cost 1-1.2 euros.
