Tirana, the most expensive city in the whole Balkans region: Mercer’s survey
Tirana is not at all the cheapest city to live in Europe or in the whole the region.
Mercer’s annual survey, which is the most prestigious on a global level in this regard, shows that Albania represented with Tirana in the ranking of cities according to the cost of living is ranked 172th in the world, among 209 countries.
The overall rating refers to the cost of living for foreigners, but in fact it really shows how expensive a particular city is.
Sofia, Belgrade, Sarajevo are cheaper than the capital of Albania to live, Mercer says.
Further in Europe, Kiev, and especially Sofia and Bucharest, appear to be cheaper cities than the capital of Albania, where almost one-third of the general population lives.
In the last report, Albania ranked 186th in the world, among 209 countries.
The change with 14 positions shows a significant increase in the lives of the residents of the capital compared to other peoples.
Other recently published data, both by Eurostat and the European Commission, show that prices in Albania have risen sharply in recent years, while Albanians continue to have the lowest per capita consumption in the European geography.
At a global level, Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, is the cheapest city to live in, while Hong Kong is the most expensive one, followed by Tokyo.
