Tourism expected to employ 120.000 Albanian nationals by 2027, GDP share projected at a stunning 10.8%
One in ten Albanians will be employed in the tourism sector in the timespan of less than ten years.
This is the forecast made by the Albanian Investment Development Agency in the report covering the development of this sector over the past few years and the following ones, based on the data of the World Tourism and Travel Council.
By the end of 2016 it is estimated that tourism services and accommodation sector employed 85,500 individuals, or 7.7% of total employment.
Meanwhile, the agency says that by 2027 there will be some 120 thousand employees, or 10.1% of the total.
Tourism is also expected to make a major contribution directly to the country’s economic growth.
While in 2016 the contribution to the Gross Domestic Product was 123.7 billion leks or 8.4%, in 2017 the impact is expected to increase by 5.2%.
Even greater is the contribution that tourism will have in the future for the country’s economy, while it is expected to reach the figure of 10.8 percent of GDP or about ALL 244 billion.
During 2016, tourism generated some ALL 219.1 billion, accounting for 56.1% of total exports.
This is projected to increase by 5.0% in 2017 and by 6.2% in the period 2017-2027 to ALL 419.4 billion in 2027, with a total weight of 62.4%
In the future, what is expected is also an increase in investment in tourism, something that will receive a boost thanks to the reduction in the VAT for accommodation structures and attracting international brands to the hotel.
