Transport of goods in decline for May
The volume of trade in goods declined during May.
According to the Institute of Statistics, the volume of goods transported by shipping, rail and air has declined.
In particular, the maritime transport, which reports the highest volume of commodity trade, recorded a decline by 6.3% in May compared to the same period of the previous year.
This data is an indicator of the lowered foreign trade volumes in May.
According to Instat, even in the value of goods imported for May, there was a modest increase of 1.9%.
However, this decline in volume does not include land transport, for which Instat does not provide data.
Also, the drop in volume can be related, in particular, to specific products, such as raw materials or building materials, which occupy a higher weight in volume.
While freight transport was declining, the passenger transport market increased again in May.
The highest growth continues to be seen in air transport, with the number of passengers increasing by 14% compared with May last year.
For the first five months of the year, some 993 thousand passengers used international air transport to enter or leave Albania.
The number of passengers is up by 11% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The air transport market is benefiting from a positive trend, both in tourism and in the outbound tourism.
According to Instat data, for the first five months of the year, the number of foreign visitors to Albania increased by 8%, while the number of Albanians who traveled abroad grew by 10%.
