VAT refund: Figures show sharp improvement as new law being implemented

VAT refund by the fiscal administration over the years has been a gangrene for Albania’s business community in general.

But with the change of VAT law and refund procedures, the procedure has now accelerated.

According to the Statistics of Tax Offices, for the 8 months of this year 520, or 192 businesses more than last year, were refunded.

From these, 198 taxpayers belong to requests of 2016 while 322 taxpayers belong to requests of 2017.

VAT refunds on business have accelerated sharply in recent years.

This process, which has been a constant problem for entrepreneurs, is an important factor in dealing with taxpayers, and while being a legal obligation, it is progressing with remarkable steps.

One of the main factors contributing to the improvement of the situation is the new law on VAT, which has entered into force in 2015.

The law stipulates that VAT will be reimbursed only on the basis of risk analysis.

The law provides for a reduction in the time of treatment and refund of VAT from tax administration for 60 days for ordinary subjects and 30 days for exporters.
