We are in the top of Europe for price increases – Top 5 on consumer prices list in August, led by food
The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, which serves as a benchmark for comparison with other European countries, for August is fixed at 2.1%, according to the latest data from the Institute of Statistics. As can be clearly seen from the Instat table, Albania is the 5th country in Europe with the largest price increase during August, after Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Romania. The European average, meanwhile, is fixed at 0.4%, official data show.
The largest impact, full 1.5 percentage points from 2.1 which is the index in August, is given by the category of food and non-alcoholic beverages. In our country, the largest increase of prices, of 4.1% is observed in the group “Food and non-alcoholic beverages”, followed by the groups “Transport” with 3.6%, “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” with 1.4%, “Miscellaneous goods and services” with 0.8%, “Furniture, home appliances and maintenance” and “Entertainment and culture” with 0.6% each, “Hotels, cafes and restaurants” with 0.5%, “Communication” with “0.4%”, “Health” with 0.2% and “Rent, water, fuel and energy” with 0.1%. On the other hand, the prices of the group “Clothing and footwear” decreased by 0.2%.
