State of emergency declared as 20% of Tirana without water supply
Tirana Municipality had declared a state of emergency for drinking water as a result of lower levels in reservoirs due to high temperatures.
Mayor Erion Veliaj convened the Task Force on natural emergency, warning daily checks to avoid abuses with drinking water, starting with car washing points.
The head of the municipality said that this institution has at its disposal 25 tank cars to supply areas affected by the emergent situation, such as the New Ring Area and the western part of Tirana.
Veliaj added that the water crisis currently affects 15% -20% capital.
From the inspections, according to the head of the municipality, there have been cases of water stealing through pipelines with over 200 cuts, 29 of which in the transmission line.
Veliaj urged citizens to report cases of abuse in the emergency numbers 112 and 128.
