400.000 e-banking accounts – The number has doubled in last two years

The number of internet banking accounts reached nearly 400,000 at the end of last year. Bank of Albania’s statistics show that over the past year the number of internet banking accounts increased by 24%, compared with two years ago this number almost doubled. Last year, 55,000 new accounts for individuals and 21,000 business accounts were registered for access via the Internet.

Individual accounts prevail, with 83% of the total number of accounts associated with this service. Already, approximately 13% of accounts in the Albanian banking system can be accessed through the Internet, from just over 10% at the end of 2017. Banks are promoting these services more, adding new channels, such as applications for mobile phones.

The growing penetration of technology in everyday life and the need to make the best use of time is making Albanians embrace rapidly the opportunities offered by the financial system. Last year, the total home banking payment volume reached ALL 886 billion, an annual increase of 61%. The total number of payments reached 2.9 million, out of less than 2.3 million that had been in 2017.
