Albania ranked among most polluted countries
Albania is experiencing rapid urban developments since several years, which is accompanied by a rather not small bill in the environmental plan.
The latest statistics from the World Economic Forum list Albania in the first 5 countries that are most vulnerable to pollution.
According to these statistics, the mortality rate in terms of air pollution per 100 thousand inhabitants is 171.4, that is, approximately 5,000 Albanian citizens per year risk to face death from this cause.
The Forum lists 10 countries with the highest risk starting from tenth place with Serbia, followed from Romania, Ukraine, Sierra Leone, China, Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Korea and in the first place is Georgia with 292.3 deaths.
In Albania 44% of greenhouse gas emissions come from the energy sector, according to data from the World Economic Forum.
Although Albania’s contribution to emissions of greenhouse gases is about four to five times lower than the international average levels, with an average estimated cost of 9.4 million tons per year of carbon dioxide CO2, these data can be a good news for very little time, if we do not have strong policies on climate issues, experts suggest.
According to the latest data that the Ministry of Environment has made available to AgroWeb.org shows that energy and transport, followed by agriculture and waste sectors are significant contributors to emissions of greenhouse gas in Albania.
