Albania to further develop its capital markets: BoA Governor meets EBRD delegation
The situation of the banking system, capital markets, measures taken to reduce non-performing loans and increased financing of the economy were some of the topics dicussed at a meeting that Bank of Albania Governor Gent Sejko held with representatives of EBRD Board of Directors.
Sejko stressed that addressing these issues has been one of the main commitments of the Bank of Albania, which has continuously implemented measures, including a number of legal and regulatory improvements.
These measures have produced gradual and lasting effects, which are expected to continue in the near future.
According to the head of the BoA, it is important to have a further development of capital markets by expanding the financial system, but in parallel with this, Albania should align its markets in accordance with international guidelines.
Bank of Albania claims that along with development of capital markets, it is important to have an increased financial awareness and literacy among Albanian citizens.
Representatives of the EBRD Board of Directors praised the work of the Bank of Albania and underlined that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will continue to contribute through significant projects which are related to financial stability, energy and agribusiness.
