Albanian farmers produced 1.129 thousand tons of vegetables, 261,754 tons of fruits in 2015
Over 1.129 thousand tons of vegetables were produced in 2016, marking an increase of 9.6% compared to 2015.
The highest level of vegetable production in Albania was reported in Fier, Tirana and Berat with respectively 373.406, 121.661 and 120.105 tons.
Meanwhile, Gjirokastra and Kukes have reported the lowest levels of vegetable production, respectively at 13.714 and 14.171 tonnes.
The data were disclosed in a recent report published by INSTAT, which in addition to vegetable production, has published the figure of fruits production in 2016, stating that the figure reached 261,754 tons, increasing by 7.6% year-on-year.
“The highest level of fruits production was achieved in the south-eastern part of the country, in the Korca region, followed by Elbasan, Fier, Berat, while Gjirokastra, Lezha and Vlora reported the lowest levels of fruits production,” reads the report.
As Albania has climate conditions that favor olive production, 99.075 tons of olives were produced in 2016, with a 3.2% increase compared to 2015.
“The highest amount of olive production in Albania is concentrated in coastal and lowland areas that boast Mediterranean climate conditions: in Fier, Berat, Elbasan and Vlore.”
“Northeastern areas, with a cold climate, such as Kukes, Korça and Diber regions, are not olive cultivation areas,” reads the report published by the Institute of Statistics.
