Blood diseases and tumors major causes of deaths in Albania: INSTAT
INSTAT has published the latest data on the causes of mortality in the country for 2016, the data on male and female mortality, and deaths by age group.
Specifically the latest report states that the number of deaths in 2016 in Albania was 21 388, resulting in a mortality rate of 74.3 per 10,000 inhabitants.
“In the number of deaths in 2016, women held 47.2% and men 52.8%. Compared with 2015 the number of deaths has fallen by 4.6%. Natural deaths hold 87.4% of the total in 2016, followed by deaths caused by accidents by 2.1% and 1.1% those by suicide,” writes the statement.
According to INSTAT, the maternal mortality ratio dropped in 2016 to 3.2 per 100,000 live births from 9.0 in 2015.
Causes
In relation to the causes of deaths, INSTAT explains: “In 2016, about 52.0% of the deaths were caused by “diseases in the circulatory apparatus”, which for this period declined by 4.2% compared with 2015.”
“Among other causes that occupy an important weight in the number of deaths are “tumors” with 15.8% of the total. In 2016, deaths caused by tumors increased by 2.1% compared with a year ago, where the subgroup “lung tumor” constitutes 20.4%.”
Deaths by age
In 2016, people aged 50-84 years account for 92.5% of the deaths and the age group 85 years and above accounts for 25%.
The highest number of deaths in the age group 85 year old and over is held by women with 63.8%.
In 2016, 277 deaths were reported for people under 1 year old, accounting for 1.3% of the total. Compared with 2015, the number of deaths of children under 1 year increased by 18.9%.
In 2016, the number of deaths for the age group 70-74 years has decreased by 15.7% compared with 2015.
