Construction permits granted in Albania doubled in 2017 – Tirana, Fieri and Korça top the list
The number of construction permits in Albania grew once again in the third quarter of this year.
According to data from the Institute of Statistics, the total number of building permits approved across the country amounted to 310.
Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the number of permits increased by 114%.
For the first nine months of the year, 608 construction permits were issued in Albania, almost as twice compared to the same period of the previous year.
The districts with the largest number of new constructions in the third quarter of this year were Tirana with 65 permits, followed by Fieri with 54 and Korca with 50.
Based on the more detailed data from INSTAT, two-thirds of the permits were given for residential buildings, while one-third for commercial and industrial constructions.
The 208 permits for residential buildings are dominated by those up to two storeys, while new building permits were only 48.
While permits for non-residential buildings have mainly been for industrial and commercial buildings.
According to INSTAT data, construction has been one of the main contributors to economic growth in recent years.
For the first two quarters of this year, construction sector output grew on average by 18% over the same period a year earlier.
