Cultural tourism in Albania soared by 22% in 2017
2017 has been a positive year for the figures of cultural tourism in the country.
According to statistics from the Institute of Statistics, the number of visitors to museums, monuments and archaeological sitës amounted to 669,000, increasing by 22% compared to 2016.
The most attractive cultural destinations for tourists remain archaeological parks.
During 2017, archaeological parks had over 261,000 visitors 13% more compared to the previous year.
Archaeological parks attract approximately 40% of the total number of visitors to the country’s historic attractions.
However, the number of visitors to museums and castles recorded faster growth rates, respectively by 33% and 22% respectively.
The increasing number of visitors to historical monuments owes mainly to the positive tendency of entering tourism in the country.
During the past year, Albania was visited by 5.1 million foreigners, an increase of 8.1% compared to 2016.
The high increase in the number of visitors last year came from non-neighboring countries and especially from Western European countries.
However, there is a large influx of tourists from new markets and especially from Poland.
