EC revises Albania’s growth at stunning 3.8%, higher than gov’t’s expectations
For the second time in less than a month, the European Commission has revised in positive terms the growth of the Albanian economy for this year and the next one.
The European Union’s executive branch estimates that the Albanian economy will grow to 3.8% this year, which is above the ambitions of even the Albanian government.
In the report of May 11 this year, the EC projected an increase of 3.7%.
As for next year, the institution projects a growth of 4.1%, while less than a month ago it estimated a rise close to 3.9%.
In the January report, the Albanian economy was estimated to grow by 3.5% in 2017 and by 3.6% in 2018.
The European Commission has published this estimates in an extended reforms report on 5 candidate countries and potentially candidate countries, published in advance May 23 this year.
Now, this report comes in its full form with a clearer macroeconomic outlook, with the same recommendations as those of May 23rd.
As far as 2019 is concerned, the European Commission estimates an increase of 4.2% above any other projection from international institutions.
For this year, Albania is the country with the fastest economic growth in the region, after Kosovo, where growth is projected at 4.5%.
Public debt is projected to drop to 68.9% of GDP this year, to 66.3% next year, and to 62.8% in 2019.
