Election promises can be achieved if economy grows by 10%: Expert Xhepa on increasing wages

Public administration wages cannot grow at 40% if there isn’t an economic growth at least 10%.

This was the comment that economy expert Selami Xhepa made for Tv Scan about one of the most uttered promises during the election campaign.

Xhepa added that a salary increase to such levels would create imbalance of public funds management, which leads to long-term economic blow

Regarding the creation of 200 new jobs, Xhepa stressed that this promise becomes real if the Albanian economy is able to generate new jobs, otherwise it remains just wishful thinking, as it was the case of the promise of four years ago, namely, creating 300 thousand new jobs.

Official statistics from INSTAT show that the overall number of nominally employed in the Albanian economy at the end of last year was nearly 1.17 million, with an increase of 171 thousand compared to September 2013.

The number of unemployed seeking a job last December was 192 thousand people, nearly 6 thousand less than in September 2013.
