Government increases borrowing in the domestic market – Predicts 510 million euros of debt securities issued in Q1
The Albanian government will enter the domestic debt market by issuing about 63 billion ALL government securities, treasury bills and bonds, during the first three months of this year, according to the official calendar. This amount translates into about 510 million euros of debt in the domestic market. If we add the amount that belongs to the Bank of Albania, of about 17.2 billion ALL, the total goes to 80 billion ALL, or about 650 million euros. So far, treasury bills have entered the market in two auctions on January 5 this year, with maturities of 12 and 3 months, for a total value of about ALL 9 billion, with an average interest rate of 1.85% for 12 bonds monthly and about 1% for the one with 3-month maturity, show the data from the last auction, where the demand was as much as the supply.
Both of these auctions were debt issues by the Ministry of Finance. Regarding the calendar of the first 3 months of the year, out of about ALL 80 billion new debt issue, about 21.5% belong to the Bank of Albania, while the rest belongs to the government. Compared to the previous quarter, only for treasury bills, a significant increase is expected, with about 36% of borrowing from the Albanian government.
