Inflation falls again and returns to the levels of the beginning of the year – 1.4% for July
Inflation fell again in July, confirming the weakening of the temporary price shock caused by the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic. Instat data show that the annual inflation rate for July was 1.4%, from 1.8% in June. In the monthly comparison, the consumer price index decreased by 0.5%. Inflation fluctuations in recent months have been mainly related to the food group. Even for July, the inflation of this group again experienced a significant decrease by 1 percentage point, dropping to 3.1%.
For July, the decrease in the price of vegetables had a significant impact, by 0.8% less compared to a year ago. Meanwhile, inflation remains high for fruits, at 16.3%, for oil at 4.8%, or for fish at 4.5%.
For most other groups, fluctuations in the annual inflation rate are small. For July, the reduction of fuel prices brought a further decline in inflation of the “Transport” group, to -4.8%.
Figures are showing that price increases after the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic were temporarily. Inflation has already returned to the levels of the beginning of the year and it seems that a steady increase will still take time.
