Inflation in upward trend, reaches 2.2% in June
Inflation for June rose again to 2.2%, from 2% in May.
According to data from the Institute of Statistics, in recent months, inflation is nearing the bottom limit of the Bank of Albania target. However, compared with the previous year, inflation seems to have a clear upward trend, given that last June it was at 1.2%.
The main contribution to inflation was still by the food group, which in June recorded an inflation increase of 5.1%, from 3.8% in May.
The products with the highest growth in prices compared to the previous year are fruits, vegetables and dairy products.
The increase in prices of food products, however, was balanced by the decrease in the “Transport” group, where inflation fell to a further 0.7%, from 2.6% in May.
The fall in inflation in this group is owed mainly to the fall in retail fuel prices.
Among the groups with lower weight, inflation has declined in the “entertainment and culture” group, while the negative inflation rates have further deepened in the “Clothing and footwear” group.
The Bank of Albania expects that inflation for this year will be at 2.3%, with a significant increase from the 1.3% recorded last year.
