Instat publishes latest report on population figures

Natural increase of population for the first quarter 2017 reflects a decline of 33.6% compared to the first quarter of 2016.
During this period, the number of births exceeded the number of deaths by 852.
In the first quarter of 2017, the natural increase of the population in 12 districts of Albania recorded the highest rate in the district of Tirana, where the number of births exceeds that of deaths by 639.
In Elbasan, Durres, Dibra, Lezha and Fier the natural increase is positive.
The lowest value was recorded in the region of Korca, where the death toll exceeds births by 160.
The number of births for the first quarter 2017 results 6880 marking a decrease of 4.0% compared to the first quarter 2016.
The lowest number of births registered in the district of Gjirokastra, 138 births, a decrease of 10.4% compared to the first quarter 2016, while the largest number of births registered in the Tirana region with 2087 births, which mark an growth by 1.5%, compared with the first quarter 2016.

Tirana and Vlora districts are the only counties that reported growth in the birth rate in the first quarter 2017 compared with the same period a year earlier, although these results too small.
The largest decline in the birth rate during this period was reported in the the Berat region with 14.3%.
The number of deaths for the first quarter 2017 results in 6031, marking an increase of 2.6% compared with the first quarter of 2016. Meanwhile, according to INSTAT the number of deaths is increasing.
