Meat consumption in Albania: Beef and veal at 48%
Beef and veal accounts for 45.8% of domestic meat production in Albania, according to recent data published by Eurostat.
The second place is held by pigmeat, which accounts for 33.3% of the total meat produced in the country during 2016.
Poultry meat is in the third place, accounting for 12.5% of the annual General Product in the country.
In the fourth and fifth places, meanwhile, the lamb and sheep meat and the goat meat are ranked at 4.1% each.
It turns out that Albania is one of the only five European countries where domestic production is mostly oriented to beef and veal, while in all other European countries, pig meat and piglets are in the first undisputed place.
In total, Albania has produced a total of 24,000 tons of meat during 2016, according to Eurostat’s latest data.
A total of 35 European countries have been analyzed.
The data also shows that only 10 of these 35 countries produce goat meat, and one of them is our country.
As far as the production of poultry from the domestic meat industry is concerned, if we compare it with other European countries, it turns out that our country is among the weakest performers in this regard.
On the EU average, poultry meat is second in the list as far as production is concerned, followed by pigs, veal and beef, than comes that of sheep and lamb, and in the last place goat meat.
