Orange production – Albania 7th in Europe, with 10,300 tons per year
Albania is one of the only 10 European countries where there is production of oranges.
By the volume of production, Albania ranks seventh across the continent in this regard.
The data were released by Eurostat in a recent publication on agribusiness, which analyzes the 28 European Union countries, some of the candidate countries, as well as the EFTA countries.
From the data it turns out that in Albania the production of oranges was fixed at 10.300 tons over the past year.
Thus, Albania does not have rivals in the region.
But it should be noted that the production of oranges is a direct merit of weather conditions and geographic position, which has proven in colder places.
Mediterranean countries, such as Greece, Portugal, Italy, Turkey, etc., have an advantageous position in this respect.
A producer of oranges is Croatia as well, albeit with a minimal production of about 300 tons a year.
Compared to the continent, Albania’s output is limited to only 0.16% of Europe’s total output per year, say Eurostat data.
