Road accidents declined in April, but number of casualties still high
April ended with 150 road accidents, while 22 fatalities were recorded and 168 were injured. Compared with April last year, which recorded 176 accidents, indicators fell by 14.8%.
The total number of casualties has also fell to 190 people, from 222 in April 2016.
The cause of these accidents in 91.3% of cases was wrong drivers’ behavior, and drivers of age 25-35 and 16-25 have been the main causes.
A total of 277 accidents were reported during January-April caused by these age groups, from 538 accidents in total.
Most of these accidents occurred in Tirana (54), Durres (24), Lezha (19) and Elbasan (14). However, in Fier, although there were only 10 road accidents, the number of deaths reported was six.
These districts have been problematic, according to this same order, in the period January-April
The number of traffic casualties per 100 thousand inhabitants during April was approximately 7 people, but this number, unfortunately, is slated to increase during the summer months, which also marked the highest number of road accidents.
